GRAND BLANC — Programming for children and adults alike is on tap at Grand Blanc McFarlen Library during the next several weeks as the summer season turns to fall. Here’s a brief rundown of the activities planned.
An introduction to the Internet computer class is featured at 6 p.m. Aug. 28. This class is slated to introduce participants to the internet via a guided hands-on tour. Participants will learn some new vocabulary and receive a little bit of experience utilizing the world of the Internet.
Participants are required to have a valid Genesee District Library card and PIN set up on their account to enroll in this class.
A fourth session of a new series, entitled Let’s Talk About It, Jewish Literature, is slated from 7-8:30 p.m. Sept. 3. The book up for discussion is American Pastoral by Philip Roth.
The final session in this series, moderated by Julie Colish, an English professor from University of Michigan-Flint, will be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 17. The book for this discussion is Bee Season by Myla Golberg. Copies of these books may be reserved through the library.
A Friends of the Library used book sale is slated from 6-9 p.m. Sept. 24, from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Sept. 25, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 26, from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Sept. 27, and from 12-6 p.m. Sept. 28. A cornucopia of gently used books, DVDs, CDs and audio books will be available for purchase. Proceeds benefit the library.
A computer class delving into digital music and audio books is on tap at 6 p.m. Sept. 4 in the Community Room. This course will introduce those enrolled to the basic concepts of digital audio, as well as what digital audio products are offered at the library. All participants should have a basic working knowledge of computer parts, be adept at navigating a mouse and be able to log into Genesee District Library computers with a valid GDL barcode and PIN. Registration is required.
A computer class designed to provide patrons with an introduction to computer systems will be held at 6 p.m. Sept. 11 in the Community Room. This hands-on computer course will provide patrons with introductory knowledge via a guided hands-on experience. Participants will learn the names of assorted computer parts, learn how to log into GDL computers and will practice using a mouse. All participants must have a valid GDL card and PIN set up on their accounts. Registration is required.
A book discussion group is set from 1-2 p.m. Sept. 18. The book of the month is entitled, His Brother’s Keeper, by Jonathan Weiner. Copies of the novel may be reserved at the library.
A Spiderwick Chronicles Extravaganza is slated at 2 p.m. Aug. 27. Come dressed as your favorite Spiderwick family member, troll, sprite, or fairy. Join Children’s Librarian Jennifer Mann in crafts and games based on the popular children’s book series and recent film adaptation of the same name.
Join Grand Blanc folksinger Gary Brandt for a time of fantastic music and talk during an entertaining musical concert for the entire family at 3 p.m. Sept. 14 in the Community Room. All ages are welcome to attend.
Storytimes with Miss Carol for three-year-olds is featured from 11-11:30 a.m. Sept. 29, while story hour for two-year- olds will be held at 10-10:30 a.m. Story hour for four-year- olds is on tap from 1-1:30 p.m. Join in for music, games, crafts and stories. Registration is required.
