FIM hosts Gospel music conference

FLINT — Noted Gospel and church music experts will congregate at the Flint Institute, 1025 E. Kearsley St., for a Gospel Music Conference 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 20. After the conference, the culminating event is a worship service at 7 p.m. at Refuge Temple, 4400 W. Carpenter Rd.
The conference, which focuses on integrating the fine arts into the sanctuary service, features a daytime workshop with different topics. Following is the schedule:
• Divine Dance for Adults with Sheila Miller-Graham
• Divine Dance for Youth with Deidre Pitts
• The Healthy Gospel Singer with Sylvia Pittman
• Gospel Music Piano Technique with Roger Jones
• Praise Band Tune-up with Marianna Zeigler
• Liturgical Signing with Donna Ward
• Youth Mass Choir Workshop with Jerome Threlkeld
• Gospel Music Composers’ Forum with Elder A. Jeffrey LaValley
• Lecture/Discussion led by Pastor Seon Thompson
Thompson also will lead the evening service at Refuge Temple. The worship service is free.

Individuals and/or groups can register for the conference. Cost for individuals is $17 per person, groups of 5-10 people is $12 per person and groups of 11 or more is $7 per person.
