Michigan well represented in sports record book

EAST LANSING — Ninety-nine team and individual performances from Michigan high schools either own outright or share record-setting marks in the 2008 edition of the National High School Sports Record Book, published by the National Federation of State High School Associations. Several local teams from years back still retain records that we pulled from the complete list. We’ve bolded them below. An asterisk denotes shared titles.

Wrestling leads the record parade with 25 records — 13 four-time state association individual champions, seven marks for team points in a dual meet, three fastest pins, and two other marks make up the total. Fifteen baseball entries and 10 marks each in football and softball are the top sports in which Michigan is represented.

The 2008 edition of the National High School Sports Record Book is available for purchase from the National Federation of State High School Associations at a cost of $12.95 each, plus postage and handling. For more information, contact the NFHS at P.O. Box 690, Indianapolis, IN 46206. Telephone: 800-776-3462.
