Nice crowd for Get Outdoors
HADLEY TWP — Local participation in the first-ever, national Get Outdoors Day drew 80 people to the Metamora Hadley Recreation Area.

Free PVD testing at Marlette Hospital
MARLETTE — Free Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD) Screenings are offered on Wednesday, July 16, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Marlette Regional Hospital Specialty Health Care Services, 2770 Main Street, Suite 7.

Turn in containers to aid mission work
ATTICA TWP. — Save bottles and cans for a charity drive from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, at Wal-Mart in Lapeer and Bryan’s Market in Deerfield Township.
The drive is organized by Lapeer Community Church and Extreme Response to support the 2008 Ecuador Mission Team. Containers are accepted weekdays at the church, 80 Lake Pleasant Rd., Attica. — R.A.
AARP driver safety
LAPEER — Don Morris will teach a two-day driver safety course on Monday, July 21, and Tuesday, July 22, noon-4 p.m. each day at the Lapeer Senior Center (Annex). Cost: $10, check payable to AARP. Mystery and dinner
ELBA TWP. — Dinner and a mystery are in the script for a unique fundraiser for Paradise Animal Rescue on Aug. 9 from 7-10 p.m. at the Lapeer Country Club, 3786 Hunt Rd.
The plot of Murder of a Millionaire revolves around a deceased millionaire and the principle players gathered for the reading of his will.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the mystery starts promptly at 7 p.m. Aside from the plated dinner, there’s a cash bar, 50/50 raffle and a prize for one lucky winner who “solves” the mystery.
