Physician receives specialized certification

BURTON — Asfandiar Shukri, MD, an occupational medicine specialist, recently received certification as a medical examiner for divers.

Shukri completed his training in medical assessment of fitness for diving courses in Louisiana. His training was sponsored by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society. His new certification is applicable to four diving classifications, including recreational diving offered by the YMCA, scientific diving, public safety diving and commercial diving.

Shukri also is a certified medical review officer, certified trainer for breath alcohol training and drug screen collecting, as well as an independent medical examiner.
