LAPEER — Kohl’s Department Stores recently honored nearly 2,000 kids nationwide for their efforts in volunteerism through the eighth annual Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship Program.

Among those students were 86 children from Michigan. Local honorees include Lapeer residents Mary Sawdon, 17, and Victoria Tripp, 9.

Each winner received a $50 Kohl’s gift card and the chance to receive a $1,000 regional scholarship in July.

“Young people are transforming our communities through volunteerism and service activities that benefit others,” said Julie Gardner, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Kohl’s. “Every year we are inspired by the good deeds these kids have accomplished and are proud to recognize them through the Kohl’s Kids Who Care Scholarship Program.”
