MICHIGAN — Four-legged friends of Farmers Insurance Group holders with comprehensive and collision insurance are now eligible for a little protection of their own.
The new coverage, which applies to new and existing customers who renew their policies on or after June 1, means that pets injured or killed in a collision or theft are covered up to $600 per occurrence.
“Our customers asked us to extend coverage to their non-human passengers and Farmers Insurance has responded,” said Bill Martin, senior vice president-Auto Product Management at Farmers. “We estimate more than 63 percent of our customers have pets, and caring for them after an accident can be expensive.”
Customers are required to have both comprehensive and collision auto coverage, but there’s no additional charge for people with those two policies. The new coverage allows for household pets only; animals commonly kept for food or profit are not covered. Details: www.farmers.com. — J.F.
