LAPEER — There’s no better time to buy a bicycle than Saturday, July 12, at the grand opening of Road, Track & Trail Bicycles, 411 W. Nepessing.

For that day only, a 10 percent off sale is offered on everything in the new store. Look for a wide array of riding jackets, gloves, shirts, shorts and shoes, and a dazzling display of accessories and parts. Cycle books, magazines and skateboards are sold here, too.

Everyone is invited to join the celebration and check out the new site. Grand opening hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“Come in for a quality bicycle and excellent service at a fair price.” said Doug Hodge, the owner, who moved his bike business a few blocks west and across the street a month ago.

“We’ve had really good, positive feedback from customers,” Hodge said. “It’s a much nicer shopping experience for them, and sales have been up a little bit. We’re just excited about the new location and our investment in downtown Lapeer. We’re committed to downtown Lapeer.”

His former place, called Adventure Cycle & Sports, was smaller, and the store was rented. Hodge changed the name to more accurately reflect the sales and service of road bikes, trail bikes and BMX bikes.

“Sport comforts and hybrids are the best-selling bicycles, followed by road and mountain bikes,” Hodge said. “Schwinns and Trek are popular brands.”

Mike Worell is the store manager. Sam Arms is the main mechanic, and Andrew Scheps does “a little bit of everything,” from waiting on customers to taking bikes apart and reassembling them.

Road, Track & Trail Bicycles services and repairs all bicycles, not just the ones sold at the store. Free estimates are offered. Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays, and 10-4 on Saturdays. Details: 664-1313. Or visit info@rttbicycles.com.
