My mom is a selfless person. She protects me, loved me and was always there for me. So I want to thank her for always putting us kids first, no matter what. You are appreciated.
Her grandkids also want to thank her for being an awesome grandma. We love you!
The Johnsons — Jennie, Don, Donny, Dylan and Kate
My mom has gone to be with the Lord, but there are three ladies who I know are so very special to me, they do everything for me. Their names are Jean Shaffer, Margot Burris and Norma DeKlerk.
Jean does everything for me; she buys me anything I need. She and her husband, Vern, let me call them Mom and Dad. I love them so much.
Margot is very special, too. She and her husband, Bob, take me to church on Sunday mornings and Sunday nights. Jean and Vern bring me back home on Sunday morning. Margot loves me like a daughter; I love her a lot, too.
Norma is so very special, too. She is our pastor’s wife. She and her husband just came back from Jordan. I really missed them while they were gone, but I am sure glad they are back. I go to Calvary Bible Church. — God Bless, Sally Dodge

My Mother, Bertha van Eldik Downs, taught at Lapeer H.S. in the 1930s and returned in 1950 to start the high school counseling program. She retired in 1968. My Mom was kind, thoughtful, supportive, non-critical, encouraging, and my best friend. Even though she was almost 40 years. old when I was born, I could never have asked for a better Mother and friend. Always loved, always missed. — Mary K. Derck
My mom is so special because she absolutely without a doubt loves her family! She lost her big sister to muscular dystrophy 4 years ago, she took total care of her the last 10 months of her life. She watches my daughter 3 days a week for my husband and I, and her husband lives with epilepsy. Recently, her parents had to move back to Michigan from Florida because they are too fragile to live on their own. With her gentle voice that I remember as a child, she whispers to them “welcome home mom and dad” and her door opens. Everything she does is with a smile on her face and true love in her heart. Thanks for all you do mom, and Happy Mothers Day!!!! — Love, Allison

My mom — Marylynn Danielsen — is amazing! She has been married to my dad for 56 years and raised five great kids. She is grandma to seven, great grandma to one and has a grand dog — Myka Breanne who adores her. I am so lucky and proud to call her my mom. In her retirement from nursing she loves to quilt and hang out with her family. I love you so very much mom! —Lisa Danielsen
I cannot imagine a better mother in the world!! I do realize there are many incredible mothers, but none BETTER than mine. The words that come to mind are: loving, generous, compassionate, funny, friend, a blessing, ... among hundreds more. How wonderful, that I am able to give my girls such an amazing gift of an unimaginably wonderful grandma. Thank you mom, for all you are, all you give, and all you do.
— Love, Allyson

I DON’T KNOW WHAT I WOULD DO WITHOUT HER

Tribute to Penny Hopkins
I remember her whispering softly into my ear.
“Move through life gently, my dear.
Smell the flowers and autumn harvest, as often as you can.
View every sunset, as it makes shadows across the land.”
And in the hazy glow of each morning’s sun.
I hear, “may you remember today has only just begun.
May you make the most of this, and each and everyday.
Always be the best you can be, in each and every way.”
And, as I stroll through this life, you gave to me.
I hope that my own son will, one day see.
Those same things you taught me, it’s about the journey, and taking chances.
It’s about family and friends, and mother-son dances.
It’s about good times and bad times. Times we’ll never forget.
It’s about loving and laughing with minimal regret.
It’s about having someone catch you when you fall.
Someone you can lean on, and believes in you, through it all.
That’s you. I love you mom. Thank you. Happy Mother’s Day!
From your Daughter: Beth Mercier
My mother: Diane Snoblen
Words cannot describe a proper tribute to my mother, Diane Snoblen. She has two children and is the grandmother of four. She works part-time and also babysits her grandchildren. She has been by my side and I cannot thank her enough for her patience, guidance, support, and love for me and my boys. She is not only my mother but my best friend. I love you Mom! — Jennifer Howard
My grandmother, Margaret Snoblen, is a magnificent woman. She is 86 years old and the mother of five children, ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She is small in stature but her heart is large. I have been very fortunate to have her in my life and my boys are fortunate to know such a warm, loving, compassionate, generous and spiritual person. She is truly my angel and we love you very much, Grandma! — Jennifer Howard
I wanted to tell you how wonderful my mom is. She is such a wonderful grandma and mother. She goes beyond the distance and she thinks of others besides herself. She is always helping out my dad, her kids and her grandchildren. She is always willing to help. She is the greatest mom and grandma of the world. — Cheryl Verner

My mom is a remarkable woman. She enjoys living life to the fullest. My daughter was getting married and we all took a trip to Toronto together. Mom surprised us all with her ever-giving generosity and paid for the trip. We went to an interactive play, Tina’s Wedding and she was chosen by the cast to dance with the groom. She stole the show. She’s beautiful inside and out. Thanks mom for everything you do.—J. Lynn
Ila Warner (Moma) will always be remembered for raising 6 with dad’s help. She made 7 loaves of bread a week and sometimes more. Frosted sugar cookies, milk chocolate cake and dream bars.
Monday was always washday and homemade soup for supper. During hard times she did laundry for prominent people.
Moma was always interested in current events and politics. After I had a long illness, she took me to see the movie Abraham Lincoln and when John Phillip Sousa came to Flint, we went to the parade. She was active in the Altar Society of All Saints Church. Moma has always been special in my life. I’m 88 years old, what memories I have.
After we all left home, my parents sold the house in Flint and built one on Irish Rd in Davison where they lived the remainder of their lives. - Marcilla M. Bradshaw, Lapeer

My mother was Frances Wilma Carmean. She was born on Nov.10, 1927, and died on July 11, 2007. She was the youngest child of Nelson Raymond Stapleton and Ethel Eva Blackmer and the last surviving member of her family. She married William Merle Carmean on June 26, 1954, and divorced him the following January. I was born in April 1955. My mom was an awesome mother, and father, to me. She was an awesome mother and a best friend to her only son, and I endeavored to be there for her and to support her, too. She loved to play rummy, and no matter how often I beat her she was always ready for another game. She also loved to crochet beautiful rose pot holders and do word searches. She always said she had a little angel looking out for her. She underwent numerous surgeries and also had a minor stroke from which she fully recovered. She lost several of her best friends — her beloved dogs Frisky, Muffy, Queenie, Tippy, Christy, and Nickie over a period of years, but still kept a positive attitude. Though life was rough for her, she continued to shine brightly. She was a fighter even throughout her final illness. She was a real survivor, and she fought the good fight. She had two goals during her final illness — she wanted to come home, and she wanted to go to church. She made it home on July 2 where she spent the final nine days of her life with her son and her little dog Buffy. On July 1 she went home to be with the Lord and has been attending church in heaven with her Redeemer ever since. She’s waiting for us just beyond the chilly Jordan. — Jeffrey Carmean
