History and ragtime

— Make history by joining the 5th Annual Lapeer County Historical Society Concert at the PIX Theatre on Friday, Nov. 2. Open to the public, this is a fundraiser for the society, with proceeds to benefit building improvements and operations at the historical museum. A dessert buffet begins at 6:30 p.m., and easy-listening music and ragtime by Steve Farley and January begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available from board members, Steve and January, Thorne’s store, and at the museum, as well as at the door. Join the Laffing Gass Comedy Company on Nov. 3 for its 7:30 p.m. improv show at the PIX Theatre. The five-member troupe interacts with the audience for suggestions as well as onstage input, and is patterned after television’s Whose Line Is It Anyway? format. — Solid Blues unites The Staple Sisters’ Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee Mavis Staples and eight-time Grammy nominee Charlie Musselwhite, with the Grammy-nominated North Mississippi Allstars and Joe Krown, who has performed with many luminaries, for a one-day presentation at The Whiting. Ailey II

New York City hits the boards in Flint with the acclaimed Alvin Ailey’s dance ensemble, Ailey II, on Friday, Nov. 2, at The Whiting. Universally renowned for merging the spirit and energy of America’s best young dancers with the passion and creative vision of today’s emerging choreographers, the troupe currently performs under the artistic direction of Sylvia Waters.
