Jessop honored
with Guest Award
LAPEER
— Jim Jessop was given the Edgar A. Guest Award recently by the Lapeer Lodge No. 54 of the Free & Accepted Masons.
The Elba Township man was lauded for his countless contributions to the greater Lapeer community over the past several decades. Jessop, a retired educator, was a founding member and president of the Lapeer Area Horticulture Society, Lapeer County Historical Society and the Lapeer County Genealogical Society.
After joining the Lapeer County Courthouse Restoration Committee in 1990, Jessop helped raise tens of thousands of dollars to refurbish the Historic County Courthouse. Of the nine years he sat on the Community Mental Health Board, he served as chairman for five.
Those weren’t his only accomplishments, but the Masons decided he was well-deserving of the highest honor they can give to a non-Mason, said past master Jim Davis, who presented the award.

New Eagle Scout
Spencer Dudley, who has held the position of Senior Patrol Leader in Boy Scout Troop 349 in Lapeer, was recently awarded the highest rank of Eagle, after earning 21 merit badges.
His Eagle project included manufacturing park benches for the City of Lapeer at Water Tower Park. His Eagle Court of Honor took place on Sept. 2 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Lapeer.
The North Branch High School junior (Class of 2009) has been active in school sports, such as football, basketball and track.
