New Scrabble Club

Crafters wanted

Growing classes

The MSU Extension service offers a three-class series on growing flowers starting Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Annex Building, 287 W. Nepessing St.
The first classes are on Saturday from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and the last, on Oct. 20, is an all-day seminar. Students will learn about annuals, perennials, bulbs and garden design.

Blood drives

— The American Red Cross will host blood drives this month in Dryden and Almont.
Dryden Fire Department, 5532 Main St., is the site for a drive on Monday, Sept. 24, from noon-5:45 p.m. On Tuesday, Sept. 25, the blood drive will be at the Almont Lions Club, 222 Water St., from noon-5:45 p.m. — R.A.

— The Columbiaville United Methodist Women will offer original Upper Peninsula-recipe beef pasties again this year — once monthly. Cooks also are making vegetarian pasties this year. Under the Stars fundraiser, dinner

Child ID event

— A free child identification program takes place during the Dryden Fall Festival on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Dryden Fire Department.
The program will include a taped interview with the child; fingerprints; a DNA swab; tooth print; digital still photo; and general information profile. All information will be given to the parents.

Civil War Day at Duncan Brothers’ Farm

Peter Mansion open house Saturday
COLUMBIAVILLE
— Owners of the William Peter Mansion will host an Open House from noon-8 p.m. Saturday so the public can tour the well-known downtown architectural building at 4707 Water Street, which is now a bed and breakfast.
There is no admittance fee. The public also can tour parts of the mansion being used for a photography studio and a day spa. Food, crafts, kids activities and more will be offered. — R.A.
