Babysitter school
MARLETTE — The popular Child and Babysitting Safety (CABS) Class is offered from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16, by Marlette Regional Hospital.
This course teaches 11-15 year olds responsible babysitting skills as well as what to expect from the parents who hire them.

Distinctive Duck
competition
LAPEER COUNTY — Area merchants, organizations and professionals are invited to support Lapeer Habitat for Humanity in the second annual Duck of Distinction competition.
Participants will adopt and customize a duck to represent their business or organization. All ducks will be on display downtown at the Habitat for Humanity booth during Lapeer Days, Aug. 17-19. Tutoring made Easy
LAPEER — The next “Tutoring Made Easy” free workshop for parents and caregivers is on Friday, Aug. 10, from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1310 Main St. across from Lapeer Regional Medical Center.
For the first time, Family Literacy Center is offering childcare as part of this workshop to children age 12 and younger accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
Lunch is provided for class participants. Please bring a sack lunch for your child.
Topics will include learning how children learn and more effective ways to teach children to read or to read better. Phonics, sight words, comprehension, learning styles and more will be discussed. Participants will receive a resource book of strategies for teaching children.

to help Moving Wall visit
LAPEER — Local veterans and supporters plus veterans from Tuscola, St. Clair, Sanilac, Genesee and Oakland counties are invited to support Lapeer in their effort to bring The Moving Wall to Lapeer. Meetings are at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays at the Lapeer American Legion Post 16, 1701 W. Genesee St. The next scheduled meeting is Aug. 14.

Blood donors sought
LAPEER COUNTY — The American Red Cross issued an emergency call for blood donations this week.
Statewide, blood inventory levels plunged below an adequate supply for Type O blood, positive or negative. Inventory levels for blood types A-negative and B-negative are also at less than adequate levels. The Great Lakes Region of the American Red Cross reports that a three-day level or 72-hour supply is considered adequate.
The next blood drive in Lapeer County will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Chruch, 200 N. Cedar in Imlay City, on Aug. 14. For details on other blood drives near you, call 800-GIVE-LIFE or visit www.givelife.org.
