Caregiver program
LAPEER — An educational program, “Preventing Caregiver Stress,” will be presented from 2-4 p.m., Aug. 14 at Lapeer Regional Medical Center, 1375 N. Lapeer Rd.

Tutoring made Easy
LAPEER — The next “Tutoring Made Easy” free workshop for parents and caregivers is on Friday, Aug. 10, from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1310 Main St. across from Lapeer Regional Medical Center.
For the first time, Family Literacy Center is offering childcare as part of this workshop to children age 12 and younger accompanied by a parent or caregiver.
Lunch is provided for class participants. Please bring a sack lunch for your child.
Topics will include learning how children learn and more effective ways to teach children to read or to read better. Phonics, sight words, comprehension, learning styles and more will be discussed. Participants will receive a resource book of strategies for teaching children.

IMLAY CITY — Adults age 55 and older can get a free buffet breakfast hosted by Mercy Casa Maria, 600 Maple Vista, on Friday, Aug. 3, from 8-10 a.m.

BBB fundraiser
ELBA TWP. — Operation BBB (bikes, billiards and Badd Habitz band) is set for Saturday, Aug. 4, at Michael’s Roadhouse, 266 Lake Nepessing Rd., for Operation Care Package Michigan.
Bike registration for the poker run is from 9-11 a.m. but all vehicles are welcome; 8-ball registration and the pool tournament is from 2-3 p.m., Badd Habitz plays from 8 p.m.-midnight. There is a fee to join the ride and tournament. Trophies, prizes, raffles, drawings, food and fun are part of the event. A portion of the proceeds will go to OCPMI. Bike Run benefit
LAPEER — Ray C’s Harley-Davidson Buell, at 1422 Imlay City Rd., is the host site for the Habitat for Humanity 4th annual Bike Run fundraiser on Saturday, Aug. 11, starting at 10 a.m.
Participants will travel for about two hours to various “pit” stops and return, says co-organizer Margaret Schlaud.

DEEFIELD TWP. — Fans of Katie Whitis-Brady have organized a fundraising spaghetti dinner on Saturday, Aug. 4, for airfare and hotel bills to send the Lapeer County singer to American Idol auditions this summer.
The benefit dinner is from 1-6 p.m. at the Lapeer Center Building. Tickets are $6 for adults, $4 for children and no cost to kids under age five.
Katie will sing for your supper. Other entertainers include Jim Albert with bluegrass and country, and the Step N Stars dancers.

Big veterans’ event
MIDLAND — The 82nd Airborne Division Association, Mid-Michigan Chapter, big fundraiser on the officially-proclaimed Michigan Airborne Day, at Barstow Municipal Airport in Midland, Saturday, Aug. 4, 9:30 a.m.-7 p.m. There is a USO-style show planned with displays of vintage vehicles and aircraft, re-enactors will put on a re-enactment of a famous battle, other significant historical displays, plenty of food, drink and history of military vendors. Tickets are: Adults $5 each or Family pass for $8, disabled vets free with proper identification, kids under six pay no admission. All proceeds go to veterans’ programs, veterans in need and the educational assistance of the children of veterans. — R.C.
