Night of country music
ELBA TWP. — The Elba Lions will host a Night of Country Music Friday, June 29, from 6-10 p.m. at the Lions Hall, corner of Elba and Davison Road. Music will be provided by a DJ.

Shriners free mini clinic
LAPEER — Lapeer Area Shrine Club is hosting a free mini clinic, at Lapeer Masonic Temple, 1685 Saginaw, on Saturday, June 23, noon-3 p.m. Parents or guardians should bring children with scoliosis, brittle bone disease, cerebral palsy, growth problems, missing limbs, deformities or any other medically-challenged child to the Shriners’ mini clinic for free referral for free surgery or treatment at a Shriners Hospital for Children. July 4th concert
LAPEER — Musicians from the Lapeer Civic Orchestra will play at the Historic Lapeer County Courthouse in downtown Lapeer at a 30-minute ceremony on Wednesday, July 4, 9 a.m. Patriotic and historic dress is encouraged by the event planners at the Heritage Research Institute, who will give readings of the Declaration of Independence and the Pledge of Allegiance. — R.C

landscaping class
LAPEER COUNTY — Learn to design a home landscape at a class on Saturday, June 23, offered by the Lapeer County MSU Extension.
The day-long workshop will teach homeowners how to draw a landscape plan and choose plants to complete it. Bring along dimensions and photos of an area, and go home with a customized drawing.

Get your thumbs dirty for container garden contest
LAPEER COUNTY — Adults and young people under age 18 can show off their container gardening skills in the contest during the Eastern Michigan Fair.
Judging will be in August. It’s sponsored by The Lapeer County Master Gardener Program.
This year’s theme is “A Garden on Wheels” and all containers need to be in some form of wheeled container. First prize for adults is a $50 gift certificate. There is a $1 entry fee for adults but free to those under 18.

Golf outing benefits New Life Lutheran
DEERFIELD TWP. — New Life in Christ Lutheran Church will host a fundraising golf outing at Willow Springs Golf and Country Club, 7335 Oak Rd. in Vassar, on Saturday, June 23.

Sports cards, NASCAR and a coin show
IMLAY CITY — Sunday, June 24, 10 a.m.-3 p.m., there will be a sports cards and coin show at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 1405 N. Van Dyke. Table rentals are $30. Italian slant wine tasting, dinner
OAKLAND COUNTY — Enjoy dinner at the palatial Palazzo Di Bocce at 4291 S. Lapeer Rd. and wine tasting with special guest Paul Mann on Thursday, June 28, at 7 p.m.
The event is hosted by the Lapeer Wine Tasters Guild but non-members are welcome to enjoy the food, wine and ambience. Dinner will include fisherman’s baked mussels with puttaesco sauce; a hand-tossed salad of grilled quarto formaggio pizza with greens and pear dressing and Italian baked short ribs.
