BBQ dinner benefit for Center Building
LAPEER — Tickets are now on sale for a BBQ Beef Dinner from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, to benefit the Lapeer Center Building.
Diners can eat at the non-profit Lapeer Center Building or take out. Tickets are $8 and available at all Lapeer County Bank & Trust branches through June 15.
The BBQ is a fundraiser for a major energy conservation project at the building, including new lighting, updated heating and cooling, water conservation and new refrigeration equipment. Bird walking at Sutherland
HADLEY TWP. — A bird walk program takes place starting at 8 a.m., Saturday, June 16, at the Sutherland Nature Sanctuary, 3960 Diehl Rd., west of M-24 off Pratt Rd.
There is no cost or registration needed. Fred Townsend will conduct the program.

Learn landscaping at
homeowners’ class
LAPEER COUNTY — Homeowners can learn to design their own landscape at a class on Saturday, June 23, offered by the Lapeer County MSU Extension.
This day-long workshop will teach homeowners how to draw a landscape plan and choose plants to complete it.
Bring along the dimensions and photos of an area to be designed and go home with a customized drawing, thanks to instructor Julie Robak, who has a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from MSU.
Kim Willis, Lapeer MSUE Home Horticulturist, also will help homeowners choose plants that are right for the area. Cost of the day, including lunch and paper supplies, is $50.

LAPEER COUNTY — American Red Cross Blood Drives take place across the county this month with the opportunity to enter a drawing for a Bahamas cruise and a Las Vegas trip.
Drives include: Trinity United Church, 1310 N. Main, Lapeer from 1-6:45 p.m. and United Methodist Church, 4696 Pine, Columbiaville, from 1-6:45 p.m., Tuesday, June 19. Church of Christ, 1680 N. Lapeer, is having a blood drive on Tuesday, June 26, from 1-6:45 p.m.

Reading program
at Lapeer libraries
LAPEER COUNTY — Summer Reading programs are offered by the Marguerite deAngeli Branch of Lapeer County library, Columbiaville and Metamora libraries.
Children enrolled must read 10 books and make four library visits between June 18 and July 28. A goal for those not yet reading is to have 30 books read to them and make library visits.

Free food service
for Imlay City kids
IMLAY CITY — Free meals are available to children in the Imlay City community who are age 18 and younger, or eligible persons up to age 26, starting this month at Borland Elementary School, 500 Borland Rd.
The program is offered from June 25-Aug. 3, excluding July 4. Breakfast is served from 7:30-8:30 a.m.; lunch from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; and a meal from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

LAPEER — Marc Thomas and his puppet, Max, will entertain children of all ages with free music, magic and ventriloquism on the lawn of the Marguerite deAngeli Branch of the Lapeer District Library on Tuesday, June 19, at 2 p.m. Parents are asked to bring along a blanket.
Lunch with the Munch Bunch is at noon on Friday, June 22. Families can bring along a blanket or lawn chairs for a picnic lunch, then listen to stories read by the library staff. The event will be canceled in wet weather. — R.A.
