LAPEER — Lapeer County MSU Extension is offering a Children’s Spring Garden program in five classes beginning May 11.
The Lapeer Horticulture Society is sponsoring the free classes.
Children between the ages of 7-9 will learn about plants and have the opportunity for hands-on projects involving growing them. Lapeer Master Gardeners teach the classes. Masons deal cards
ATTICA — The Attica-Imlay Masonic Lodge is hosting a Euchre Tournament Saturday, May 6, at 6 p.m.
A donation of $15 includes tournament entrance, dessert and refreshments. A cash prize will be awarded to the top three finishers.

Rooms for rent
LAPEER — Rental rooms are available to the public at the Lapeer Center Building. Three rooms, with the ability to hold 70, 250, and 450, are available year-round for receptions, parties, business events, auctions, community activities and more. The center is a non-profit venture.

Classes offered
on boating safety
LAPEER — A Boating Safety Course is scheduled for May 20 at the Lapeer 911 Center from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
Michigan Law requires a Boating Safety Certificate for 12- to 15-year olds who wish to operate a boat; 12- to 26-year olds who wish to operate a personal watercraft (PWC) and parents of the 12- and 13-year olds who want to operate the PWC.

Senior Power Day
FLINT — The Valley Area Agency on Aging has a Local Senior Power Day scheduled for Wednesday, May 24, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Crossroads Village.
Seniors 60 and older can have lunch, entertainment, shopping, rides and bingo for $3.

Bowl for funds
ALMONT — The Almont schools service learning class Bowl-a-Thon fundraiser is at Almont Hideaway Lanes on May 6 from 1:30-4 p.m.
The students will raise funds for United Way, the American Association of Zookeepers and Habitat for Humanity.

DRYDEN — Klothes Kloset Plus is having a personal products drive to help restock the hygiene closet. For every product item donated between now and May 26, donors will receive one ticket for a quilt raffle.
Toothpaste, toothbrushes, floss, bar soap and deodorant will earn one ticket. Two tickets can be earned with a 4-pack of toilet tissue, paper towels, dish soap, body wash, shampoo, conditioner or feminine hygiene products. A 12-pack of toilet tissue, laundry soap, diapers or wipes will earn three tickets.

SS. Peter & Paul
NORTH BRANCH — A Polka Mass takes place at SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church on Satur-day, May 6, at 6 p.m.
The special mass features Big Daddy Lackowski, who will play hymns on his accordion. Songs will be in Polish.
A Polish dinner buffet follows the mass at 7:30 p.m. in nearby Keenan Hall. Everyone is welcome, and Big Daddy will entertain.
Advance tickets are $20 per person, $35 per couple or $5 for kids age 5-12. The menu includes roasted chicken, stuffed cabbage, pierogi, desserts, coffee and punch.

Health Department
offers free services
LAPEER — The Lapeer County Health Department begins offering new services today to women over 40 in the community. The free services include clinical breast exams, mammograms, pelvic exams and pap smears.

STATEWIDE — The MSU Extension office encourages all morel mushroom hunters to slice each mushroom lengthwise to verify that it is a morel, and to assure no slugs or other invertebrates are hidden in the stem.
