Renewed church
to be rededicated
COLUMBIAVILLE
— The United Methodist Church is having a rededication ceremony April 13 after months of renovations.
The church received new carpeting, antique-style wainscoting, some new embossed “tin” ceilings and 1960s-era paneling was removed. Everything is being cleaned and polished.
Except for the plastering, most of the rejuvenation was completed by church members who worked Fridays and Saturdays. They started the project shortly after Christmas, she says. — R.A.

Red Cross classes
LAPEER
— American Red Cross adult, child, infant CPR, AED and First Aid courses are offered on Saturday, March 29 from 8 a.m.-6:30 p.m.
A variety of course combinations are available. Costs range from $35 for adult CPR/ AED to $60 for all course components. The fee includes all materials.
Sessions take place on the second floor community room of the National City Bank Building; 220 W. Nepessing St. Registration is required at 800-608-4ARC ext. 405. March is Red Cross month. — R.A.

VFW Fish Fry
MAYFIELD TWP.
— The Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW Post 4139 invite the public to another famous Fish Fry at the hall, 128 Daley Rd. on Friday, March 28, from 5-7 p.m.
Dinner prices are $7 for four pieces of fish, large fries, coleslaw and a dinner roll. A children’s portion is $4 and includes two pieces of fish, small fries, coleslaw, and a dinner roll. Coffee and lemonade are free.
Proceeds from the dinners benefit veterans, their families and the community, notes Donald Klein, post commander and Grace Butterfield, president of the Ladies Auxiliary. Details: 810-664-9222. — R.A.

Skunk cabbage

— One of the most favorite and unusual flowering plants at Seven Ponds Nature Center is the early-blooming skunk cabbage. Take a stroll along the boardwalks this Sunday, March 23, at 2 p.m. to learn about this fascinating plant and its unique adaptations to the environment. The address: 3854 Crawford Rd. Reserve tables for Mom to Mom sale

— Tables can be reserved now for a mom to mom sale, hosted by MOPS, Saturday, April 19, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1310 N. Main St. (across from the hospital). Tour a sugar bush

— Join the folks from Seven Ponds Nature Center in a tour of the Arnold’s sugar bush farm on Saturday, March 29. Meet at the nature center, 3854 Crawford Rd. in Dryden at 12:30 p.m. and carpool. Museum teaches
heirloom care

— Sloan Museum professionals can teach you how to care for your antique jewelry, pictures, heirloom quilts and other treasures in conjunction with its Treasure! Exhibit, or through an Outreach program. A silver and ceramics workshop, free with the price of admission, is set for Saturday, March 29, at 2 p.m. at the museum, 1221 E. Free tax help

— An electronic filing AARP tax-aide program for seniors and low- to moderate-income citizens takes place every Wednesday, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the North Branch Village Hall.

Join the organ
donor registry
LAPEER COUNTY
— As April nears, keep in mind it is National Organ and Tissue Donor Awareness Month and the need for donors is critical. The number of people requiring a life-saving transplant outnumber available donors.
Gift of Life and Michigan Eye Bank volunteers will gather at the Secretary of State branch office in Lapeer on Wednesday, April 2, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. to encourage patrons to sign up for the Michigan Organ Donor Registry, and get a red heart sticker on their driver’s licenses or state IDs.
The state Department of Health and Human Services has information about organ and tissue donation and transplants on its website, www.organdonor.gov. — J.E.B.

Local Boy Scouts
earn ways to camp
LAPEER COUNTY
— The Tall Pine Council, Boy Scouts of America is kicking off the first ever “Subscription to Camp” program.
From now until April 10, more than 650 local Scouts in a three-county area that includes Lapeer will try to earn their way to summer camp by asking family, friends and neighbors to subscribe to one or more of 29 magazines for $20.
Supporters can also renew an existing subscription or give one subscription as a gift. To find a Scout in your community to support through the “Subscription” to Camp program please contact the Scout Service Center at 810-235-2531.
