Cub Scouts
host car wash
DRYDEN TWP. — Dryden Cub Scout Pack 142 is hosting a car wash, bake sale and bottle return collection on Saturday, June 7, from noon-4 p.m. at the Dryden Township Fire Hall. All proceeds will be spent on a new Pinewood Derby track. — J.E.B.

Flea market
at Suncrest
MAYFIELD TWP. — It’s time again for “Junk in Your Trunk,” the Eden Committee’s second annual flea market at Suncrest Medical Care Facility. The event is set for Friday, June 13 from 9 a.m.-3 pm.
Committee members are still looking for vendors to reserve $10 parking lot spaces. Proceeds will be spent on music, arts, ice cream and other “extras” to enhance the lives of Suncrest residents. Space rentals: Kris Strickler, 664-8571, ext. 129. — J.E.B.

LHS reunion
LAPEER — Bring a lawn chair and your favorite dish to the Lapeer High School Alumni Association’s annual potluck picnic on June 10 at noon at the Hollis Hayes farm, 355 N. Hayes Rd.
No reservations are needed. Rain or shine, the reunion will be fun. — J.E.B.

Flags to retire
MAYFIELD TWP. — If your American flag is tattered and torn, bring it to a flag retirement ceremony hosted by the VFW Post 4139 and the American Legion Color Guard on Flag Day, Saturday, June 14, from 5-7 p.m. at the VFW Post, 128 Daley Rd. New flags also will be available for purchase.
There will be a barbecue competition that day. Each contestant and one guest eat free. For $8, enjoy a great plate of barbecued meats with potato salad, baked beans, cole slaw and a drink. Children’s meals are $5. Of each meal served, $1 will be donated to the VFW National Home.

Farm Bureau
rates candidates
LAPEER — Lapeer County Farm Bureau’s Candidate Evaluation Committee will interview candidates for the 82nd District state representative seat on Wednesday, June 11, at the Farm Bureau office. Each candidate will be given 15 minutes, in alphabetical order, regardless of political party.
Answers will be rated during the interviews. The candidate with the highest score will receive Farm Bureau’s endorsement for the state position. — J.E.B.

Children’s class features gardens
LAPEER — There’s still time to enroll children ages 8-10 in the June 12 children’s garden class hosted by Lapeer County Master Gardeners at the MSU Extension office, 287 W. Nepessing. Each class costs $5.

Garage, bake sale
benefits mission work
LAPEER —Lapeer Community Church will host a benefit garage sale and bake sale from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. tomorrow ( Friday) and Saturday to raise funds for their mission team trip to Ecuador later this year. The trip is set for Aug. 21-Sept. 4.
