Mother’s Day lunch
LAPEER
— Senior citizens are invited to a Mother’s Day luncheon Friday, May 9, at the Lapeer Center in the Annex. Baked ham, scalloped potatoes, green beans, casserole, banana cake, roll and milk will be served. Suggested donation is $2. Reservations required. Call 245-6896.

Protect farmland
LAPEER
— Agriculture is Lapeer County’s largest industry, and members of the Citizens for Farmland Preservation and Quality Growth are dedicated to protecting agricultural land and the local economy.
New members are needed to help the cause. The group meets on the second Wednesdays at 9:15 a.m. at the USDA Service Center, 739 N. Saginaw St. The next meeting is May 14. Everyone is welcome. — J.E.B.

Scrapbook Day
for dog rescue group
LAPEER
— The Australian Shepherd Rescue in Michigan will host a Scrapbooking Crop Day from 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at River Ridge Clubhouse on Saginaw Street.
Funds raised will provide food, shelter, medical care and other necessities for foster dogs. Seating is limited to 30 people so reserve a seat now for $25. The cost includes brunch, dinner, snacks, raffles, prizes and fun.

— Lapeer County FFA is selling annuals and perennials during the 2008 Spring Plant Sale through Saturday, June 7 at the Lapeer County Ed-Tech Center 690 N. Lake Pleasant Rd.

Perennial Plant Sale

— Holy Redeemer Lutheran Church will host its second annual Perennial Plant Sale from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. May 17-18, rain or shine.
The public is welcome. Last year’s event was a tremendous success with many very satisfied gardeners, organizers say. All plants are $5 or less.

Free FLC workshop

— Family Literacy Center will present a free 90-minute workshop on discipline and learning disabilities for parents and teachers on Thursday, May 8, at the deAngeli Branch of the Lapeer District Library, 921 W. Nepessing.
Two sessions are offered: 12:30-2 p.m. (feel free to bring your lunch) or from 6-7:30 p.m.

Mother’s Day breakfast

— Metamora/ Northstar Rainbow Girls will host an all-you-can-eat Mother’s Day Breakfast at Attica/Imlay Masonic Lodge on May 11 from 8 a.m.-noon.
The menu includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, bacon, ham, potatoes, applesauce, milk, orange juice and coffee for $5. Bring your mother, wife, mother-in-law or just yourself to enjoy the breakfast.

Volunteers needed for Camp Forget-Me-Not
LAPEER COUNTY
— A special volunteer opportunity is available for residents of the greater Flint and Lapeer areas who are 16 and older.
Volunteers are needed at the annual Camp Forget-Me-Not, a special two-day, day camp for teens who have experienced the death of a family member or close friend. Camps are June 21-22 at Lion’s Bear Camp in Mayfield Twp. Visiting Nurse Services of Michigan’s (VNSM) hosts the event.
The camp offers teens the opportunity to share their grief experiences with peers. Volunteers are needed in three areas:
• Camp Buddies, who are partnered with individual campers.
• Camp Extras, to help with snack and lunchtime, in the kitchen, with registration, crafts, nature walks and campfire activities.
• Arts and Crafts, to help with the arts and crafts activities.
Volunteers will need to attend two training sessions scheduled on May 13 and May 20, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at VNSM’s administrative building, 1515 Cal Drive, Davison. For details call Carolyn Stubbs at 810- 496-8779.
