CPR certification
FLINT
— The University of Michigan-Flint Urban Health and Wellness Center (UHWC) offers a CPR certification class from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. March 14 in Room 2202 of the William S. White building.
Cost is $75 and includes a new American Heart Association book. The course, for a two-year certification, covers adult, pediatric and infant CPR, choking and AED. Diane Towers, MSN, RN, APRN-BC, will teach the course.

Women’s night out
FLINT
— Area women are invited to attend a Women’s Night Out from 4-8 p.m. March 20 at the University of Michigan-Flint Recreation Center.
Attendees can participate in hip hop, Pilates, kickboxing, zumba and aqua fitness classes, in addition to shopping for specialty goods. Other activities include chair massages, holistic health vendors and hourly prize giveaways.

Benefit needs crafters
OTISVILLE
— Sell your crafts and help raise funds for the Southern Links Trailway. Vendors are needed for the Spring/Easter Craft Show, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on March 15 at the Forest Township Hall, 130 Main St. Vendor tables are $15 each. Show admission is free. Details: Diane at 810 793-4621. — J.E.B.

Kindergarten
registration
IMLAY CITY
— Parents of children who will attend kindergarten classes at Weston Elementary School this fall are invited to register today from 5-8 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Spanish language interpreters will be on hand to offer assistance.
Parents are asked to bring copies of the child’s birth certificate, immunization records, Social Security number and verification of residency. Children must be 5 years old by Dec. 1 to attend kindergarten in the 2008-2009 school year. Classes are in session from 9 a.m.-3:40 p.m. Details: 724-9812. — J.E.B.

Children’s books
are being collected
ALMONT
— Junior Girl Scout Troop 1704 has teamed up with the Family Literacy Center to collect new and gently used children’s books this month. All donations are appreciated except for encyclopedias and magazines. Drop off books at Orchard Primary and Almont Elementary school libraries, Almont’s Tri-County Bank and DDA office. — J.E.B.

Red Cross Blood Drives
LAPEER COUNTY
— American Red Cross blood drives this month are subject to change dates and locations because of the weather, but schedules so far are:
• March 10, Almont Lions Hall 222 Water St., Almont, 1-6:45 p.m.
• March 11, North Branch American Legion, 4075 Huron, North Branch, 12:30-6:15 p.m.

The public is welcome to the annual Lapeer County 4-H Spring Achievement Open House starting at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, March 8 at the Lapeer Center Building.

Free dental care
ALMONT
— Dentists Jay Vanderest and Lois Meek at 106 S. Main St. are participating in “Give Kids a Smile Day,” on March 8, starting at 9:30 a.m.
Children ages 5-12 can receive free basic oral exams, x-rays if needed, oral care information, possible referrals for continued care, toothbrushes and toothpaste.
Participation is limited and appointments are required by calling 810-798-3941
“Give Kids” is a national program to provide dental care to children of low-income families. — J.E.B.

Firefighters dinner
to fund equipment
DRYDEN TWP.
— Dryden Township Firefighters and Auxiliary host a Spaghetti dinner from 3-7 p.m. March 14 at 5532 Main St.
Organizers will serve spaghetti with or without meat, salad, dinner rolls, coffee and desserts. The cost is $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 5-12 and seniors and free to kids under age 5.
The meal is a benefit to buy cribbing for the department. — R.A.
