Pancake breakfast
ATTICA — The Attica/Imlay Masonic Lodge $4 pancake breakfast will be held Sunday, June 18, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Masonic Temple on Lake Pleasant Road in Attica (one mile north of I-69 at Exit #163). This breakfast is all-you-can-eat pancakes, scrambled eggs, sausage, fruit salad and drinks with all proceeds benefiting local charity. Also, the hall (100 capacity) is available to rent. Guitar Hero at Reading Program

Bone density tests offered
LAPEER— Visiting Nurse Services of Michigan offers bone density screenings at the City of Lapeer Community Center, 880 S. Saginaw St., from 8:30-11 a.m. on Friday, June 13. Bone densitometry is a tool in osteoporosis management. The scan is done on the ankle; it is not a full body scan. The cost is $10. Participants will be given results to share with their physician. Student enrollment
IMLAY CITY — Imlay City Christian School is accepting applications for student enrollments in grades kindergarten through eighth for the 2008-2009 school year. Details: 810-724-5695. — J.E.B.

Visit Sanctuary
HADLEY TWP. — Sutherland Nature Sanctuary, a 75-acre wooded natural area near Hadley, has been open to the public since 1999 for hiking, bird, animal, and plant identification, and the general enjoyment of nature. It has woodchip trails, a pavilion with picnic benches, and benches along the trail.
Visitors are welcome from dawn to dusk by pre-arrangement with the caretakers by calling 810-797-4643.
Groups can arrange for guides for tree and bird identification as well as night-time frog and owl walks. Educational programs are also available for school trips.
The nature sanctuary is a property of the local Great Lakes Bio-Regional Land Conservancy. Details: www.glblc.org. — R.A.

Buy a brick to build a park
DRYDEN — Organizers hope to sell engraved bricks to help finance Dryden Memorial Park.
The project is funded by the village, township and the active Dryden Downtown Development Authority.
Bricks costs $40 each, engraved, if ordered before June 30 or $10 more if ordered later, says Deanna Harbor, DDA member.
Pick up forms at the township or village offices. The DDA is responsible for the recent upgrades of Dryden’s downtown streets and $150 worth of flowers planted by local Brownie Troop 3380. — R.A.

Camp for a day
LAPEER — Children ages 5-7 are invited to a new one-day camp sponsored by Lapeer County 4-H on Tuesday, July 15, from 9:30 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. at Camp Lael in Lapeer. Campers do not have to be in 4-H to attend.
The event, called Tropical Paradise, gives children a chance to participate in crafts, swimming, songs, games, and learn about rainforests.

City parks hosts summer day camp
LAPEER — Parents who work are invited to keep kids safe and busy this summer in a series of one-week camps, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Friday, starting June 16. Kids take daily trips to area parks, the library, bowling alley, skating rink and other fun places.
Campers must bring a lunch, drink, bathing suit and towel each day. Cost: $82 for city residents, $94 for non-city residents. Register at the community center, 880 S. Saginaw, or call 810-664-4431. — J.E.B.

Wal-Mart hosts day of recycling
LAPEER — Plastic bags are not good for the environment. Decomposition takes hundreds of years. Unfortunately, only six percent of all plastic bags are recycled.
Lapeer Wal-Mart has bins in the store entranceway for people to drop plastic bags off at any time. To raise awareness, Wal-Mart is hosting a community recycling event in the parking lot on Saturday, June 14, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.
Bring magazines, junk mail, plastic shopping bags, plastic hangers, plastic water bottles, cell phones and ink cartridges. Newspapers and phone books will be collected for Boy Scout Troop 144 of Lapeer. Details: Jenny Reiberl, personnel, 810-664-3062. — J.E.B.

Kids’ dance camp
LAPEER — Kids in first through sixth grades can enroll in an “energetic and crazy” dance camp, June 23-27, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. They’ll have fun learning dance routines they’ve seen in popular movies. Lots of hip-hop, too. Each day ends in the community center swimming pool. Cost: $82 for city residents, $94 for non-city residents. Registration: 810-664-4431. — J.E.B.

Wildlife is waiting in rivers and ponds
DRYDEN TWP. — Who knows what lurks under water at Seven Ponds Nature Center, 3854 Crawford Rd. Poke along the north river with a nature center net at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 15. Careful - the water moves swiftly. If you think ponds are more appealing, swing a net on Saturday, June 21 at 2 p.m.
Search the beautiful wetlands for interesting plants and animals along the Miller Pond Boardwalk, on the west side of Tree Top and Miller ponds Sunday, June 22, 2 p.m. Details: 796-3200.. — J.E.B.
