North Branch High School Class of 2008


Seniors at North Branch Area Schools graduated May 28.
The top students in the class of 2008 at North Branch High School include:

Valedictorian for 2008 is Colleen Cross, daughter of Harold and Carol Cross.

Colleen has a GPA of 4.049 and was a member of National Honor Society; Students Against Destructive Decisions; Student Council; French Club; Varsity Quiz Bowl; Senior Class Secretary; volleyball; basketball and soccer. She earned an Advanced Placement Scholar Award, the Michigan Promise Grant, a Masonic Lodge Scholarship and Academic All-State Honors for volleyball. Colleen will attend Defiance College in Ohio where she received a Dean’s Scholarship. She plans a major in medical technology and forensics.

The Salutatorian is Aaron Schroeder, son of Ronald and Mary Schroeder.

Aaron earned a GPA of 3.95 and was in Varsity Quiz Bowl and National Honor Society. He also was an American Red Cross Blood Drive volunteer. He earned an Advanced Placement Scholar Award, the Michigan Promise Grant, Michigan Competitive Scholarship, and a Presidential Scholar of Excellence at Michigan Technological University. Aaron will attend Michigan Technological University to major in computer networking and system administration.

Each year North Branch picks its top 25 students based on a combination of grade point average and ACT test scores to earn honors as Senior Scholar. These students were awarded a gold cord to wear with their graduation gowns at commencement.

Senior Scholars are: Aaron Schroeder, Colleen Cross, Diane Miklovich, Nicholas Tallman, Clorisa Finkbeiner, Ashley Beam, Sarah Herberger, Charles Hutchins, Alyssa Baker, Natasha Petitt, Samantha Skovran, Elisabeth VanWagoner, Rebekah Byers, Acasia Jeffrey, William Starbird, Renee Pishcke, Elisabeth Morquecho, Rachel Oliver, Jessica Bruman, Zachary Hueter, Lisa Thompson, Ashliegh Allen, Alysa Yacks, Samantha Goss and Cortney Courdner.

Each year schools in the Tri-Valley Conference, which includes North Branch, nominates three students to be named to the TVC All-Academic Team. The students are nominated based on a combination of their GPA and ACT scores.

The top three North Branch students are Aaron Schroeder, Colleen Cross and Diane Miklovich. The trio was were treated to a banquet at the Freeland Banquet Hall in Freeland, Mich., where they were recognized for their accomplishments and received a TVC all-conference medal.
