Imlay City High School Class of 2008


Graduation at Imlay City Community Schools is Sunday, June 1, at 2 p.m.

Imlay City High School’s top grads for 2008 include:

Co-valedictorian Christine Harbin earned a perfect 4.0 grade point average. She is the daughter of Kevin and Ellen Harbin.
Christine is a member of the National Honor Society, the Quiz Bowl Team and the Spanish Club. She played the flute in marching band all four years of high school. She is active in her church youth group. Christine will attend Indiana Wesleyan University to double major in English education and Intercultural Studies.

Co-valedictorian Meredith Muir maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Meredith is the daughter of Robert and Sharon Muir.
Meredith is a member of the Quiz Bowl Team, National Honor Society, the Wind Ensemble, marching band and French Club. She attended the Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership Seminar and Girls’ State this past summer. She is active in her church youth group and went on a mission trip to Russia, and was a Praise Team Leader. She was also a leader for the middle school girls’ Bible study. Meredith participated in the MSBOA solo and ensemble for her achievements in band. She was a camp counselor at Bay Shore Camps. Meredith earned awards in all four years of school in a variety of subjects. She plans to attend Wheaton College to become a high school science teacher. After graduation, she would like to serve in the Peace Corps in Africa as a teacher.

Lindsey Van Dyk, the third co-valedictorian, also has a perfect 4.0 grade point average. Her parents are Dennis and Carol Van Dyk. Lindsey is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish Club. She played basketball, volleyball, and soccer and also ran varsity track. She was a DAR award recipient and is active in her church youth group. Lindsey plans to attend Calvin College to earn a degree in nursing.

The salutatorian for the Class of 2008 is Stephen Krist. He earnd a 3.99205 grade point average. Stephen is the son of Jeffrey and Tamera Krist.
Stephen participated in JV soccer, varsity soccer, and marching band. He earned a perfect-attendance award in three of four years. He earned a BWAC All-Academic Team Award. Stephen was a member of the 2008 Senior Winter Snowcoming Court. He serves as a multi-media coordinator at his church, student leader, and worship leader for the youth and childrens programs. Stephen plans to attend North Central University in Minneapolis this fall to major in Global Mass Communications.

Ranked fifth in the Class of 2008 is Brittani Lince with a 3.97617 grade point average. Brittani is the daughter of John and Sabrina Lince of Attica. Brittani was on the academic honor roll for four years. She earned honors certificates at the Top 10 banquets for the past three years. Brittani volunteers at Seven Ponds Nature center in Dryden. Brittani will attend Michigan State University and hopes to attend Lyman Briggs College to study physics and astronomy.

Miranda Steffler is ranked sixth in the Class of 2008. She earned a 3.97614 grade point average. Her parents are Hugo and Sandra Leonardi of Imlay City and John Steffler. Miranda was a member of the art society, National Honor Society and class council, serving as vice president. She has played varsity softball and basketball. She was a camp counselor at the MDA camp. Miranda plans to attend the University of Michigan and major in Oceanic/Space Engineering and minor in the fine arts and/or international studies.

Lucas Parsch is ranked seventh in the Class of 2008. His grade point average is 3.96026. His parents are Louis and Sandra Parsch of Imlay City. Lucas is a member of the National Honor Society and the Spanish club. He plans to attend Michigan Technological University and study Business Management.

Ranked eighth is Laurin Blount. She earned a 3.94433 grade point average. Her parents are Thomas and Judy Blount of Imlay City. Laurin was in marching band and the drum major for three years and was section leader of the wind ensemble. She was a member of the Spanish club and played on the tennis team for four years and was captain for two. She also played JV softball for two years. Laurin leads a youth group praise band and sings lead vocals and plays the guitar. Laurin will attend Liberty University to major in English.

Ranked ninth is Benjamin Deppong. Benjamin maintained a 3.93643 grade point average. His parents are Jeffrey and Annette Deppong of Imlay City. Benjamin played basketball for four years and was a member of the National Honor Society for two years and the Spanish Club for two years. He was a volunteer coach for the Little League basketball program for two years. He plans to attend the University of Michigan and major in Engineering.

Christopher Walters is ranked tenth in his class. His grade point average is 3.93640. Christopher’s parents are Jon and Susan Walters of Imlay City. Christopher was in band throughout high school and has been a member of 4-H clubs and the National Honor Society, where he served as vice president. He played football and basketball. Christopher plans to attend the University of Michigan to study biochemistry.
