Champion Bus Art

Champion Bus, Inc. and General Coach of America in Imlay City hosted an art contest recently through Borland Elementary School. Winning pictures will be displayed at Champion Bus.The students also received an art kit, T-shirt and a ribbon for their great work.
Winners of the Champion Bus Art Contest are:
Third Grade students: first place, Josue Trejo, Mrs. Bonk’s class; second place, Fabiola Garcia, Mrs. Bannister’s class; and third place, Maribel Rodriguez, Mrs. Bannister’s class;
Fourth Grade: first place, Joseph Wright, Mrs. Dunn’s class; second place, Emilee O’Conner, Ms. Ferrett’s class; and third place, Rachel Kulin, Ms. Ferrett’s class.
Fifth Grade: first place, Christian Smith, Mr. Spence’s class; second place, Josh Brady, Mr. Spence’s Class; and third place, Misha Penzien, Mrs. Buhl-Hagey’s class.
Mark Robbins Memorial award recipients
announced
The Optimist Club of Lapeer recently announced the winners of the $500 Mark Robbins Memorial Award Scholarships.
Each year the Optimists award a grant to graduating seniors from the Lapeer County Education and Technology Center. Funds are for college or business school expenses. The list includes: Amanda Rhein, metal technology, Lapeer West; Nicholas Galkin, electronics, Lapeer West; Dillon Clark, electronics, Lapeer West; Felicia Haller, CAD, Lapeer West; and June Sullivan, early childhood, Lapeer East.
Assistant Principal Cathy Amboy said that many of the students go on to postsecondary education.
“We appreciate the Optimist Club helping these students each year to do so,” she said.
Lanza honored
Shannon Marie Lanza of Lapeer was inducted into the Alpha Omicron Iota Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Mott Community College last month.
Lanza, who is majoring in nursing, is the daughter of Ron and Carol Beghin of Tenino, Wash., and is married to Andrew Lanza.
Established in 1918 by two-year college presidents, Phi Theta Kappa is the largest and oldest honor society serving two-year colleges around the world. Students must rank in the top 20 percent of the class to be invited to join the membership.
Class poster winners
Michele Hopkins’ third-grade class from Maple Grove Elementary won the class Farm Bureau poster contest with the theme F.A.R.M. (Feeding And Reaching Many) this year.
Pat Brauer, promotion and education chair, gave a presentation on agriculture in the classroom, plus a pizza party for the class, on May 7.
All third-grade classes in the county’s public and private schools were invited to enter the contest and were furnished with the poster board to create a class poster.
