Local writer
published
LAPEER
— A short story by local writer Katherine Burgess will appear in Patterns, the annual literary magazine of St. Clair Community College.
Her story, Anticipation, tells of an elderly woman with dementia, who has trouble remembering that her husband is deceased. Burgess, an SCCC student, worked at a nursing home for a time.
The local Writers’ Circle, of which Burgess is a founding member, celebrated her achievement on Tuesday, March 13. Her success was no surprise to others in the group. “I knew when I first read her material that she would break into print soon,” says Gerald Sims, another founding member. “I’m hoping several others of our group will follow on her heels.”
Patterns is the oldest literary magazine of any community college in America.
Writers’ Circle is a local group of would-be writers that meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month. Their goals are to encourage each other and increase the quality of local literary works. For details, call 810-245-0228. — S.I.
